PHILADELPHIA- Monmouth sophomore Vince DuVernois placed sixth place at the Penn Relays on Saturday, one of the most prestigious regular season events in the country.
Most of the Hawks competed at the Lehigh Games, where Monmouth athletes won a combined six other events.
DuVerniois launched a throw of 228' 3" to take sixth place at the Penn Relays, which features some of the best track & field athletes at all levels.
Junior Symmone Fisher broke the school record in the women's hammer throw at the Lehigh Games with a mark of 188' 1" to win the event. Freshman Rachel Alliotta also took first for the Hawks with a distance of 42' 8 ¼" in the shot. Sophomore Sandra Jean-Romain took second in the event with her mark of 40' 2 ¾".
The javelin was won by Monmouth's Allyson Cardullo, who claimed gold with her throw of 131' 9" while Ann Mocchia's throw of 123' 3" was good enough for third. Sophomore Kelsey Maher 's personal best of 18.57.11 won the 5k for the Hawks while classmate Qiyana Hill was third in the discus (125' 2")
The men had a successful day at the Lehigh Games as well, with Robbie Robinson winning the 100m with a time of 11.28 and taking second in the 200m with a time of 22.85. Freshman Jalen Walker took second in the 200, with a time of 11.44. Shawn Hartnett won the 1500 for the Blue & White, crossing the tape in 4:03.55
Dan Fitzpatrick was second in the 400 hurdles (55.78) with Stevenson Cajuste taking third with a time of 56.21. Walker also claimed a silver medal in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.07. Senior Ben Hutterer was second in the 5k with his time of 15:40.70
Colton Langianese was third in the javelin with a throw of 165' 8", while Josh Mann took the bronze in the triple jump, clearing 45' 3". Rich Bills claimed third in the high jump (6' 4 ¾")
Monmouth hosts the 2011 Northeast Conference Championships next Saturday and Sunday in West Long Branch, N.J.
