Six Monmouth Athletes Competing at NCAA East Region Championships

May 28, 2025

It's become an annual tradition for Monmouth track & field as multiple athletes have earned their way to the NCAA Division I East Region Championships.

With national championship bids up for grabs, six Hawks will compete over the four-day meet hosted by the University of North Florida in Jacksonville on May 28-31.

"I'm very proud of all of our regional qualifiers! Every year this meet gets more difficult to qualify for, and having six athletes this year shows the growth of our program," said acting head coach Jordan Torney.

On Wednesday, Monmouth long jumpers Ahmad Brock and David Strong will kick off competition by contesting a 48-entrant field at 4:30 pm ET. Brock ranks No. 24 overall on the strength of the seasonal best 7.71m jump at the Rutgers Relays. Strong, who leapt 7.59m at George Mason in April, is No. 37 in the field.

"Our athletes are more than prepared for this meet. We intentionally built a competitive regular season schedule combined with the talent in the CAA. Makes our athletes used to competing on a stage like this. I'm excited to see our athletes compete amongst the best in the East!" said Torney.

Monmouth has four representatives on the women's side led by double regional qualifier Yasmeen Tinsley. The senior will contest the 100m and 400m hurdles on Thursday evening. There will be six heats at each distance. Tinsley is in Heat 4 for the 100m hurdles, which go off at 6 p.m. ET. She was assigned to Heat 3 in the 400m hurdles, which start at 8:20 p.m. ET. Tinsley aims to advance to Saturday's semifinals, which are set for 6:15 p.m. and 7:25 p.m., respectively.

The Hawks boast three qualifiers out in the field. Seniors Vanessa Wood (shot put), Rett Schnoor (long jump) and Veronica Chainov (high jump) will all take aim at an NCAA nationals bid.

Schnoor and Wood will compete on Thursday. The long jumper holds the No. 29 seed mark from her 6.21m performance at Rutgers Relays. Wood, who is the No. 43 seed, earned her way to Jacksonville with her 15.51m throw at Rutgers.

Chainov is tied for fifth in the 48-competitor high jump field on the strength of clearing 1.82m at the CAA Championships. The high jump is set for Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
