TRACK AND FIELD BEGIN COMPETITON AT PENN RELAYS

PENNSYLVANIA, PA. - The Monmouth University women's track and field team began competition at the Penn Relays Thursday afternoon. Senior Mary Wilks (Bridgeton, N.J./Bridgeton) took the top prize in the javelin, the 4x400 relay team took first in heat, while Jennifer Nelson (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat [Ocean County College]) posted the third best time in program history in the 3k.

Wilks threw for 147' 3" in the javelin earn the crown in the event.

The 4x400 team of Laura Williams (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Township), Colleen Rutecki (Springfield, Pa./Springfield), Rachel Watkins (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills), and Michelle Losey (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) ran 3:47.87 to take first in their heat.
Watkins also cleared 5' 7.75" in the high jump to claim eighth.

Nelson moved to third all-time in program history with her time of 10:00.24 in the 3k.
Junior Symmone Fisher (Coram, N.Y./Longwood) took fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 174' 11".

The 4x100 relay team of junior Esteem Winder (Philadelphia, Pa./Carver), freshmen Mercedes Yanora (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer Wilkes-Barre), and sophomore Lachelle Wallace (Herndon, Va./South Lakes) ran 48.28.

Monmouth continues at the Penn Relays on Friday, April 29.
