BETHLEHEM, PA. - The Monmouth University men's and women's track and field teams posted strong finishes at the Greyhound Invitational hosted by Moravian College Sunday afternoon. For the second week in a row sophomore Vincent DuVernois (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) took the top prize in the javelin while Laura Williams (North Brunswick, N.J. (North Brunswick Township) and Rachel Watkins (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) finished one-two in the 400 meter hurdles.
"It was a solid weekend overall for us," said head man Joe Compagni. "We certainly still have some areas where we need to improve in the next few weeks, but we are moving in the right direction."
DuVernois took the crown in the javelin, hurling 230' 8".
Rookie Tommy Butler (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) qualified for the IC4A Championships in May with his first place finish in the high jump, clearing 6' 8.25".
Shane Carle (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) hit a mark of 50' 11" to take second in the shot put, while freshman Daniel D'Amato (Matawan, N.J./Old Bridge) and senior Tom Ciccoli (King of Prussia, Pa/Archbishop Carroll) finished fourth and eighth, respectively, with throws of 46' 2" and 41' 7.75".
Ciccoli claimed fourth in the discus, launching a toss of 143' 7" followed by sophomore
Ryan Snyder (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) who registered a throw of 139' 9" to earn sixth.
Junior Geoff Navarro (Mays Landing, N.J./Absegami) cleared 22' 7" in the long jump to finish fourth, while classmate Stevenson Cajuste (Egg Harbor, N.J./Egg Harbor) took fifth with a mark of 21' 11.75". Joshua Lewis (Montville, N.J./Montville Township) claimed seventh with his jump of 21' 10.75".
Navarro ran 10.86 in the 100 meter dash to finish fourth followed by Lewis who took fifth with a time of 11.04.
Josh Mann (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) earned seventh in the triple jump as the junior posted a leap of 44' 3.5".
The 4x400 meter relay team of Navarro, freshman Jon Marques (Linden, N.J./St. Joseph), junior Eric Fay (Yatesville, Pa./Pittston Area) and senior Zachary Krupka (Allentown, Pa./Allentown) earned first with their time of 3:18.43.
Jalen Walker (Burlington, N.J./BCIT/Burlington Township) ran his way to third overall in the 110 meter hurdles, as the freshman checked in at 15.13 followed by sophomore Rich Bills (Matawan, N.J./St. Joseph) who completed the race in 15.50 in seventh.
Krupka earned fifth in the 400 meter dash, registering a time of 49.22, while classmate Fay posted 49.94 to place eighth.
Rookie Bayaan Oluyadi finished second in the 400 meter hurdles finishing with a time of 54.69.
Ford Palmer (Smithville, N.J./Absegami) took fourth in the 800 meter run as the sophomore posted a time of 1:55.33.
Junior Dan Collura (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) completed the 5000 meter run in 15:45.66 to earn sixth.
For the women's squad, Williams ran 1:03.13 to earn first while Watkins finished 34 seconds later with at time of 1:03.47 to claim second. Junior Lindsey Walsh (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) finished fourth as she crossed the finish line in 1:05.72.
Watkins and Walsh finished in 14.87 and 15.14 respectively, in the 100 meter hurdles preliminaries. Walsh also posted a second place result in the long jump with a leap of 18' .25".
Freshman Mackenzie Roche (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) crossed the finish line in 4:52.32 in the 1500 meter run to earn third.
Sophomore classmates Amanda Eller (Delmont, N.J./Millville) and Danielle Toritto (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) finished three-four in the 800 meter run finishing with times of 2:18.12 and 2:18.75, respectively.
The 4x400 meter relay squad of sophomore Emily MacEwen (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), Toritto, Eller, and junior Colleen Rutecki (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) claimed third, crossing the finish line in 4:03.01.
Freshman Lachelle Wallace (Herndon, Va./South Lakes) finished the 200 meter dash in 26.24, good for seventh.
Watkins cleared 5' 7" in the high jump to claim first and qualify to the ECAC Championships in May. Sophomore Alison Day (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) cleared 5' 5" to finish second.
Senior (Bridgeton, N.J./Bridgeton) and Allyson Cardullo (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) each threw for 139' 11" in the javelin, good for first and second, respectively. Sophomore Anne Moccia (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) registered a toss of 124' 3" to finish fourth.
Rookie Rachel Aliotta (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) launched a throw of 44' 11.5" in the shot put to finish first followed by sophomore Sandra Jean-Romain (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) who registered a toss of 40' 11.75". Junior Jessica Toritto (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) claimed a share of seventh with her mark of 37' 6.5".
Ashley Cuvilly (Uniondale, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) earned first in the triple jump as the senior cleared 36' 5.5".
Junior Symmone Fisher (Coram, N.Y./Longwood) landed a throw of 169' 9" in the hammer throw to claim second, followed by Jessica Toritto who registered a mark of 153' 7", good for fourth.
The Hawks return to action next weekend, April 22-23, at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University. Mary Wilks
