West Long Branch, NJ - Monmouth University freshman Kailyn Bloch has earned a second weekly award in what is her second month of collegiate bowling.
On Wednesday, the Northeast Conference named Bloch its Rookie of the Week following her performance at the Garden State Classic this past weekend in Howell. The freshman starter bowled all 13 matches against a loaded field that included national powers such as Jacksonville State and Nebraska.Â
Helping the Hawks win 7 of 8 baker contests over the weekend, Bloch ranked second on the team with a 19.24 baker frame average. Over the course of the three-day event, the Long Islander threw 59 strikes in 136 attempts (.434). She posted a .935 single-pin spare percentage, including a 17-of-18 clip in baker play.Â
Bloch, a freshman right-hander, earned her first NEC Rookie of the Week honor on the heels of her performance at the season-opening Destination Orlando.
The NEC also named Bloch a Prime Performer this week along with fellow Hawks Sierra Poole and Morgan Davis. Spearheading Monmouth's 8-5 showing that included wins over NEC rivals FDU and Niagara, Poole averaged a team-high 19.69 pins per frame over 13 matches. Davis led the Hawks in traditional team average (216.8) in Howell.
Monmouth has completed its fall semester schedule and will return to competition in the New Year.
