WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University track and field program played host to twelve other schools at this weekend's Monmouth Winter Classic at the OceanFirst Bank Center.
The Hawks won 14 events on Saturday and two more during Sunday's pole vault events. Monmouth shined in all jumping events, highlighted by sophomore
Dalton Yeust breaking the school record in men's pole vault. Yeust cleared the bar at 4.92m, while
Jack Miles and
Mike Domozych were the runners-up at 4.60m and 4.00m, respectively.
Abby Boggs, who also competed at the Bison Open earlier this weekend, set a new personal best at 3.55m, while
Gretel Jelmert won the women's pole vault.
Ahmad Brock,
Bryce Boddie, and
Keven Kevelier earned the top three spots in the men's long jump, with Brock taking first at 7.14m.
Izzy Warren finished in second place on the women's side with a jump of 5.37m. The Hawks won both the high jump events with Kevelier winning the men's event with a 1.95m jump.
Derek Vander Woude came in second at 1.90m, and
Veronica Chainov won the women's side at 1.73m. In the triple jump, Warren won the women's event with a leap of 12.10m, while Boddie finished in second place on the men's side at 14.15m.
For throws,
Mujeeb Ali won the men's shot put (16.52m) and finished in second in the weight throw (17.98m).
Natalie Rolon-Issa won the women's shot put with a throw of 13.21m, and
Jade Luciani won the weight throw with a distance of 15.29m.
In the track events, Monmouth did well, with
Yasmeen Tinsley winning the 60m hurdles (8.80 seconds) and
Jess Cervenak taking first in the 60m dash (7.98 seconds).
Brandon Muir placed second in the men's 60m dash thanks to a time of 6.95 seconds.
Tyler Clifford (4:19.08) won the men's mile, while
Jacci Martinelli won the women's mile, an event where Monmouth earned the top six spots, at 5:15.06.
Olivia Cicchetti came in second in the women's 400m with a time of 1:05.06, and
Marisa Kilgarriff won the 800m at 2:21.73.
Steven Baah-Mensah took second place in the men's 800m recording a time of 1:59.31.
Kevin Collura (1:06.67) and
Brianna Rubio (1:21.56) each won their respective 500m races.
