WEST DEPTFORD, NJ – The Monmouth University women's bowling team picked up their sixth win over a ranked opponent during the 2022-23 season when they beat No. 17 Tulane and placed 24
th out of 33 teams at the Northeast Classic this weekend in West Deptford, NJ.

It is the second time the Hawks have been victorious over the Green Wave this season, with the first win coming in Traditional play on November 5, 2022, at the Track Kat Klash in Houston, TX. The Hawks also knocked off NJCU, as both wins came on Day Two of the meet hosted by Sacred Heart University.

The team put together a 2-10 overall record during the weekend, with seven of the 10 losses coming to Top 25 teams. Monmouth averaged 184 pins per game in four Baker match losses versus No. 4 Nebraska, No. 20 Central Missouri, No. 6 Arkansas State, and Wilmington. The Hawks bounced back on Saturday and averaged 182.8 pins in five matches against No. 7 Youngstown State, NJCU, Tulane, No. 5 Stephen F. Austin, and No. 1 McKendree. Finally, No. 13 Delaware State, Tulane, and Kutztown defeated the Hawks in bracket play despite Monmouth winning seven games on Sunday.

In 69 total games, the Hawks knocked down 4,532 pins in Baker play, 4,570 in Traditional play, and 3,452 pins in Championship play for a total of 12,554 pins and averaged 182 pins per game.

Siyah Sweeny knocked down the most pins in traditional play out of the eight Hawks that competed this weekend. Sweeny placed 96
th out of 230 individual bowlers and averaged 171.4 pins across five games.

Jenna Lehrer and Desiré Villalobos both bowled four games and averaged 184.25 and 174 pins, respectively.
Jamie Phelan and
Skylar Smith each had strong showings in just three games each, too. Phelan had two 200+ games, including a masterful 245 game versus No. 5 Stephen F. Austin. Smith also put together two 200+ games, as her high of 220 came against NJCU.
Sierra Poole and
Brillian Soedarmasto each recorded a 200+ game, while
Mafe Aguiluz averaged 171.5 pins across two games.
