SWEENY EARNS MEAC BOWLING ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONORS

NORFOLK, VA – Monmouth University bowling sophomore Siyah Sweeny has been awarded Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week honors for the week of March 22 following her strong performance at Vanderbilt's Music City Classic.
 
Sweeny was the top individual finisher for the Hawks at the Music City Classic, placing 34th overall out of 203 bowlers. The sophomore achieved a total pinfall of 1,023 over five games, which was good for an average score of 204.6 per game. She posted three 200+ games, including a high game of 258 which at the time was the highest single-game score for a Hawks bowler in the 2021-22 season (Saige Yamada went on to post a 269 at the conference championships the following weekend).
 
Over 33 individual games in her first collegiate season, Sweeny knocked down 6,091 pins for an average score per game of 184.58, which was fourth best on the team. The sophomore also finished fourth on the team in 200+ games, accumulating nine over the course of the campaign.
 
The Hawks posted a 54-53 record on the lanes this season, finishing fourth at the 2022 MEAC Bowling Championships. They earned 15 wins over ranked opponents including a victory over No. 2 McKendree at the Northeast Classic in January.
