FIGLIO, FIVE MORE HAWKS GIVEN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS

RICHMOND, Va. – Five student-athletes and one coach from the Monmouth University field hockey team were named to 2022 All-CAA teams and major awards, the league announced Thursday morning.

The Hawks appeared on all three All-CAA teams and took home three of four major awards for the 2022 season. In their first season as a member of the CAA, the Hawks won the Regular Season Title with a 5-1 conference record and went 10-7 overall. Head coach Carli Figlio was named the conference's Coach of the Year after leading her squad to a double-digit win season for the seventh straight year and ending the regular season campaign on a six-game winning streak.

Graduate forward Annick van Lange was named to the All-CAA First Team, as well as CAA Offensive Player of the Year. van Lange had a monster fall which saw her lead the conference in goals (23), points (50) and game-winning goals (7). Her 23 goals were the most of any player in the entire country and had four games with 3+ goals. Along with those impressive numbers, van Lange broke multiple program records during her fifth season as a Hawk. In an 8-0 win over Sacred Heart on October 2, she broke the program record for career goals with a four-goal performance in the rain. A week later, the forward would also break the record for most career points versus Columbia and the single-season goals record on October 28 in a big 4-2 win over Drexel.

Joining van Lange on the All-CAA First Team were true freshmen Meis Kengen and Phileine Hazen. The midfielder and goalkeeper were the only two freshmen to make the First Team. Kengen appeared in 16 games for the Hawks and led the conference in assists with nine. She scored her first career goal in a game against Princeton on October 5.

Hazen, who was also named the conference's Rookie of the Year, started all 17 contests for Monmouth and won 10 games. She led the CAA in saves with 113 and posted one shutout, while finishing third in the conference in goals against average (1.71). Hazen finished fifth in the nation in save percentage (.796) with the next freshman goalkeeper ranking 15 spots below her. Both Kengen and Hazen were named to the CAA All-Rookie Team, as well.

Senior defensive back Reese Bloomstead and sophomore Jess Tucker were named to the All-CAA Second Team for their strong efforts this season. Bloomstead led the team in defensive saves and was second in the conference with three with her biggest coming in the 56th minute of a game at Hofstra on October 14 to preserve a 1-0 lead. Tucker would score moments later to seal a 2-0 win for the Hawks. Bloomstead, a team captain, started all 17 games and was the best shutdown defender on a Monmouth team that allowed just eight goals in conference play.

Tucker, who started 13 games at both forward and midfield, cracked the top 10 in the CAA for goals with five, all of which came in the month of October. Tucker's five goals was an improvement over her 2021 total of three. She had a shot on goal percentage of 81.8% and has now scored goals on 23.5% of her shot attempts for her career.

The top-seeded Hawks will play fourth-seeded Drexel in the program's first appearance in the semifinals of the CAA Championship tournament on Friday, November 4, at 1:05 p.m.
