LAS VEGAS, NV – The Monmouth University bowling team placed tenth at the Stormin' Blue & White Vegas Classic hosted by Mount St. Mary's. The Hawks battled against strong competition throughout the three-day tournament, which featured six of the top 10 teams in the most recent National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll.
After a first-match bye, MU picked up two consecutive wins in Baker play on Saturday over Spalding and Texas Southern. The Hawks posted two wins in traditional matches on Sunday against #10 Maryville and Grambling State before going 1-2 in the championship round on Monday. Overall, six of Monmouth's seven losses at the event came against ranked teams.
Jamie Phelan paced the Hawks in traditional play for the second time this season. The redshirt sophomore bowled three 200+ games while achieving a total pinfall of 1,004, which was good for an average pinfall per game of 200.80. Freshman
Sierra Poole posted the highest single-game total among all Hawks bowlers this season, earning a score of 254 in her first game on Sunday. Overall, Poole finished with two 200+ games and a total pinfall of 992.

The next scheduled event for the Hawks is the Northeast Classic, which will be hosted by Long Island University in Deptford, NJ. The Northeast Classic begins on Friday, January 21 and will conclude on Sunday, January 23.
