WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – After winning its fifth consecutive MAAC Championship, the Monmouth University men's tennis team drew No. 9 University of Central Florida (21-3, 7-0 American) for the first round of the NCAA Championship.
The Hawks will travel to Orlando, Florida on Friday, May 7 to compete at the USTA National Campus.
The Blue & White are currently on a 12-match winning streak, and have accumulated a 14-2 (5-0 MAAC) record on the season.
All six of Monmouth's singles players earned All-MAAC honors, including
Will Cooke Wharton,
Max Benaim,
Lucca Silva,
Victor Castro,
Sergio Martinez, and
Gabriel Busato. Senior
Charles Gortzounian also earned All-MAAC at No. 3 doubles.
Monmouth head coach
Chris Leicht was named MAAC Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
UCF won the American Athletic Conference title and its fourth in program history as they swept No. 29 South Florida, 4-0.
The teams will meet for the first time.
