SMYRNA, TN – The Monmouth University bowling team turned in an impressive performance over the weekend at the 2019 Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University at Smyrna Bowl.
 
Monmouth compiled a 9-3 record en route to a sixth place finish against a loaded field of competitors. Five of the top six ranked teams in the country participated in the event that included 29 total teams and 18 ranked in the NTCA Top 25.

Monmouth earned four top 10 victories, highlighted by a Baker match triumph over No. 1 ranked McKendree, 1071-1045.
 
Junior Kyla Day led the Blue and White individually as she averaged 202.00 over five traditional games during Saturday's competition. Day's effort ranked 33rd among all competitors.

- The Hawks went 5-3 against ranked opponents, including 4-3 against teams ranked in the Top 10.
- Monmouth's victory over McKendree was the program's first win over a team ranked No. 1 since Jan. 29, 2016 when it defeated Arkansas State (1058 – 1025).
- The Hawks closed the event with two wins in Sunday's Championship bracket, defeating #5 Sam Houston State (4-2) and #10 Wisconsin-Whitewater (4-0).
- The Hawks have 12 victories over opponents ranked in the NTCA Top 10 this season.
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Monmouth knocked down 1101 pins in its victory over Prairie View A&M, the Hawks' most pins in a Baker match since Feb. 26, 2016 when it defeated Vanderbilt (1132-1125).
- The largest margin of victory also came against Prairie View A&M as Monmouth won by 192 pins (1101-909).
- Monmouth's highest pin total in traditional play was 1018 against Kentucky Wesleyan.
- Junior Kyla Day bowled three 200+ games in traditional match play. She now has 14 200+ games on the season.
- Senior Haley Solberg recorded two 200+ games, including a high game of 245. Solberg leads Monmouth with 15 games of 200+ this season.
- Freshman Saige Yamada bowled a career and team weekend high game of 248. It was her fifth game above 200 pins this season.
- Sophomore Camelia Coffman contributed two 200+ games, giving her nine on the year.
- Sophomore Erin Ohta rolled a 213 high game, her a new career high and her second 200+ game of the year.
- Monmouth averaged 197.2 pins per game, which ranked seventh overall.
 
NEXT UP
The 2019 MEAC Bowling Championships are set for next weekend in Chesapeake, VA. The champion of the conference will earn an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
