TRACK & FIELD SENDS FOUR TO U.S. CHAMPIONSHIPS

STATEN ISLAND, NY- The Monmouth University track and field programs are set to send four current athletes and one former athlete to the U.S. National Indoor Championships this weekend at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York.

The women's team will send two athletes, graduate student Allie Wilson and senior Brianna Stratz to compete in the 1000-meter run. Wilson, a second team All-American last spring, is coming off a winning performance last weekend in the mile at the MAAC Championships. Stratz was also a MAAC champion last weekend as she won the 800-meter run and was a part of the winning 4x800 relay team. Both Stratz and Wilson are making their U.S. Championships debut when they race in the first round of the 1000 meter run on Saturday at 5:46 PM.

Redshirt senior Corey Murphy will compete in the shot put on Saturday at 6:05 PM against the nation's best throwers. Murphy is coming off of a championship winning performer last weekend at the MAAC Championships by winning the shot put while setting a new meet record in the process. His mark of 64'6" from last weekend's MAAC Championships is currently 9th in the NCAA ranks.

Redshirt senior Bryan Sosoo will be competing in the men's 60-meter dash as an unattached athlete while he still has eligible for this outdoor season. During last year's indoor season, Sosoo was a MAAC Champion in the 60 meters while also earning all-East honors. The first round of the 60 meters is set to take place this Saturday at 2:15 PM.

Former Hawk, Dylan Capwell '18, will also be competing in the 1000-meter run at the U.S. Championships as a professional with the Atlanta Track Club. The 6-time All-American won his first race as a professional earlier this month by winning the 800 meters at the Boston University Terrier Classic. He will compete on Saturday for the first round of the 1000 meters at 6:07 PM.
