NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Monmouth University men's swimming team continued its hot start to the season with a narrow victory over Iona on Friday afternoon at Hynes Center Pool.
Sophomore
Callan Smith (Hillarys, Australia / St. Marks Anglican) led the men's team to victory by winning three individual races, including breaking the program record in the 1000-yard freestyle, previously set by fellow Australian Frank Christian in 1979. The men won 148-114 to improve to 4-1, while the women's team fell to 2-3 on the season.
Junior
Trevor Askew (Johnstown, NY / Johnstown), sophomore Camryn McHugh (Sicklerville, NJ / Gloucester Catholic) and rookie Tahlia Botha (Cape Town, South Africa / Reddam House Durbanville / Kenridge Primary) each won two races on the day.

Callan Smith won the 100 back, 500 free and 1000 free. Smith has six first-place finishes in 2019 and 37 for his career.
- Junior
Trevor Askew took first place in the 100 breast and 200 breast to win his eighth and ninth races of the season. Askew now has 15 individual victories for his career.
- Freshman
Blake Reynolds touched the wall first in the 50 free, his sixth individual win of the season.
- Rookie
Thomas From increased his season wins total to five with his triumph in the 100 free.
- Freshman
Dylan Edge took first in the 200 back to give him four wins this season.
- Monmouth's men won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:34.55 as
Kevin Del Giorno, Askew,
Dylan Barkhuizen and Reynolds combined for the victory.
- For the women's side, Tahlia Botha added two more individual wins to her credit, winning the 100 breast and 200 breast. Botha has now won eight races so far this season.
- Camryn McHugh won the 100 back and 200 back to collect her fifth win of 2019 and the 29
th of her career.
- Rookie Alexandra Ho has five wins on the year after placing first in the 200-yard freestyle event.
NUMBERS CRUNCH

Callan Smith's time of 9:40.88 in the 1000-yard freestyle beat Frank Christian's previous program record time of 9:42.30, set in 1979.
- Tahlia Botha set a new personal best with her first-place time of 1:07.71 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
- Botha also set a new record time in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 2:26.28.
- Alexandra Ho's second-place mark of 53.61 in the 100 free was a new personal best.

Blake Reynolds set a new personal record time of 51.03 with his second-place finish in the 100 fly.
UP NEXT
Monmouth returns home to Steadman Natatorium on Saturday, November 16 for a matchup with Manhattan. The women's team will also swim against Siena, beginning at 1 p.m.
