BOSTON, MA – Monmouth field hockey forwards
Annick van Lange (Sint-Job, Belgium / Annuntia Institute) and
Aylin Aufenacker (Hamburg, Germany / Gymnasium Eppendorf) were named the America East Offensive and Rookie of Week, respectively, while the Hawks returned to the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, coming in at No. 25 this week.
Monmouth earned a pair of 5-1 wins last weekend, defeating New Hampshire in its first-ever America East Conference game before extending its winning streak over Rider to eight games on Sunday. The Hawks, who are ranked for the second time this season, currently stand fourth nationally in points per game (9.82), fifth in assists per game (2.91), seventh in scoring average (3.36) and 10th in scoring margin (1.77).
van Lange turned in a nine-point weekend scoring four goals and adding an assist in the Hawks' wins. The sophomore, who has owns a 0.91 goals per game that ranks 10th nationally, registered five points in the Hawks' America East debut against the Wildcats. The Belgian set up Aufenacker's game-winner before scoring two goals of her own in under three minutes. Against Rider, van Lange scored both her goals 1:01 apart, both off corner strikes from the top of the circle. van Lange has 10 goals on the year, eclipsing her total from last year of nine, and stands 15th all-time with 43 career points.
Aufenacker scored a pair of goals, including her first career game-winning marker, at UNH. The forward scored again on Sunday against Rider while also dishing out her fourth assist of the year to accumulate seven points on the weekend. Aufenacker has found the back of the cage seven time this year and is third on the team with 18 points.
van Lange, Aufenacker and the Hawks will host Maine on Friday, October 11th at 3 p.m. It will be the second meeting all-time between the Hawks and Black Bears.
