BASEBALL’S DAN SHEA NAMED MAAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ- Monmouth senior outfielder Dan Shea (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) has been named MAAC Player of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday. The senior totaled five extra base hits and eight runs batted in as the MU offense put up 38 runs in three wins over Quinnipiac over the weekend.

Shea led Monmouth to the MAAC's only conference weekend sweep, hitting .714 with five extra base hits in seven at bats and eight RBI's before an injury cut his weekend short. Shea had a four-double afternoon in the opener against Quinnipiac, driving in five runs, before launching his team leading fourth home run of the year in game two, a three-run blast. He scored three times and threw out two runners at second base from left field on Friday. All five of his hits went for extra bases.

Shea earns Monmouth's second weekly honor this season, and the first since infielder Danny Long was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on February 21.

The Hawks are back on the field tomorrow afternoon at Rutgers at 3:00 p.m.
