Hawks Fall to St. Peter's

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – St. Peter's University used a big seventh inning to break open a tie game and claim a 19-12 win over the Monmouth University baseball team in eight innings on Tuesday.
 
The Hawks got on the board early as Chris Walsh scored on a wild pitch in the first inning.
 
After St. Peter's scored two in the top of the second, the Hawks tied things up in the bottom of the second. Wyatt Hunt's single scored Kevin Fedoruk and made it a 2-2 game.
 
The Hawks scored three in the bottom of the third and took a 5-2 advantage. Fedoruk and Sam Saucke had RBI base knocks for the Hawks. 
 
After St. Peter's tied things up in the top of the fourth, the Hawks responded in their half of the frame. Jake Howlett's one-out single scored Simmi Whitehill and Nick Lovarco and made it a 7-5 game.
 
The Peacocks scored one in the fifth and one in the sixth and tied things up at 7-7.
 
St. Peter's broke things open in the seventh as the Peacocks sent 13 men to the plate and scored 10 times. 
 
Home runs from Saucke and Chris Walsh made it a 17-10 game in the bottom of the seventh.
 
The two teams traded runs in the eighth as St. Peter's claimed the 19-12 win.
 
Notes
  • The Hawks hit three home runs on Tuesday afternoon. That gives them 29 home runs in 25 games. Monmouth hit 26 home runs all of last year (54 games).
  • Chris Walsh and Sam Saucke hit their fourth home runs of the season. That is tied with RJ Mustaro for the team lead. 
  • Monmouth finished with nine stolen bases in the game. It is tied for the season-high in a game.
  • Chris Walsh had three stolen bases in the game to lead the Hawks. It is tied for the most steals in a game this season (Colin Richter-3 at UMBC).
  • Simmi Whitehill and Wyatt Hunt both extended their reached base safely streaks. Whitehill has reached base safely in 25 straight games while Hunt's streak reached 20 games.
  • Wyatt Hunt and Sam Saucke extended their hit streaks to 11 and 10 games respectively.
  • Colin Richter had a pair of RBIs in the game and now has a team-best seven multi RBI games this season. 
  • Drew Yagodzinskie started for the Hawks and tallied four strikeouts over five innings of work.
  • Stefan Swee took the loss after giving up four runs in 0.1 innings of work.
