BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Monmouth University baseball team rallied from a 4-1 deficit for an 8-6 win over Northeastern University in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) action on Friday afternoon.

Northeastern struck first in the game as the Huskies plated three runs in the bottom of the second.Â

The Hawks got one of those runs back in the top of the fourth as
Nick Lovarco led off with a long home run to left center.Â

Northeastern pushed its lead to 4-1 with a run of its own in the bottom of the fourth.Â

Wyatt Hunt factored in both runs for the Hawks in the fifth. Hunt's double scored
Colin Richter and he came around to score on a failed pickoff. That pulled the Hawks to within one, 4-3.

However, Northeastern scored a run in its half of the frame and led 5-3.

The Monmouth offense got rolling in the sixth as the Hawks sent eight men to the plate and scored four times for a 7-5 lead.
RJ Mustaro had an RBI single on a bunt before Richter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force one in.
Sam Saucke and Hunt added sac flies in the frame.

Austin Beard allowed just one base runner in each of the next three innings to keep Northeastern off the board.

Simmi Whitehilll RBI single in the ninth extended the Monmouth lead to 8-5.

Northeastern got one run in the bottom of the ninth but Beard got a pair of fielders choices to close out the win for the Hawks.

- The win over the Huskies moved the Hawks to 11-3 in CAA play. It ties the 2024 team for the most wins in CAA play.Â
- The Hawks improve to 6-1 on the road in CAA play this year.
- Wyatt Hunt, who had a team-high three hits in the game extended his hit streak to 13 straight games.
- All three of the Hawks with a streak of reaching base safely in at least 20 games extended their streaks. Simmi Whitehill has reached base in all 27 games while Wyatt Hunt stretched his streak to 22 games. Chris Walsh has now reached base safely in 21 straight games.
- The Hawks pushed their lead back to two games in the CAA North.
- Chris Walsh had a pair of hits for the Hawks and reached 100 career base hits at Monmouth.
- Nick Lovarco's home run was his fourth of the season and tied him for the team lead in that category.Â
- Colin Richter was hit by a pitch for the ninth time this season. He is tied for the team-lead in that category.
- Alec Couture picked up the win for the Hawks as he went five innings and struck out three.
- Austin Beard became the fourth Hawk to pick up a save this season. Beard went the final four innings and allowed just one run on four hits while striking out four.
