TRACK & FIELD POST IMPRESSIVE MARKS AT THE VILLANOVA OPEN

STATEN ISLAND, NY- Monmouth University's track and field teams used a number of big performances with split squad to compete with some of the top teams in the region on Friday night at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

The women's team took second place (of 22) behind Albany with 62 team points. The men finished fourth of 22 teams with 57 points. Howard, Rutgers, Syracuse, St. John's, Villanova, Lehigh and Manhattan were among the other teams competing.

Hawks went 1-2 in the 800m with Tionna Garner crossing the tape in 2:10.82 while fellow senior Jenna Cupp literally right behind her at 2:10.87. Sophomore Danielle Leavitt took silver in the mile (5:03.60) with Kennisha Okereke also claiming second in the weight throw with a toss of 55' 6 ¾”. Freshman Jordan Wildermuth took third in the shot put (45' 1”) and fourth in the WT with a toss of 52' 5 ½”.

The Hawks went 1-3-4 in the weight throw with senior Tim Wilson throwing 65' 9” for the win. Troy Andretta took third with a toss of 60' 4 ½” while Vincent Santarsiero (56' 4”) took fourth. Senior Bryan Sosoo finished second in the 60m. Andrew Tummino's throw of 52' 10 ¾” was second in the shot put with Dan Gilligan (49' 9”) and freshman Brandon Davis (49' 4 ½”) coming in fourth and fifth respectively.

·         The quartet of Piiru, Olson, Isekenegbe and Garner finished third in the 4x400, crossing the tape in 3:45.92.

·         Wilson has now won the weight throw in five of six events this year

·         He threw over 20 meters in the event for the second time in school history

·         Garner won the 400m for the fourth time this year and hasn't finished worse than second in the event

·         Andretta cleared 60 foot mark for the fourth time in his career, earning an IC4A spot

Numbers Crunch

·         Ten teams competed on Friday night

·         Domoah Kutu-Akoi finished 6th in the 60m dash

·         Kutu-Akoi also finished fifth in the long jump 17' 6 ¼”

·         Rachael Baker had a fifth place finish in the mile

·         Allison Taub's throw of 41' 11 ½” placed her fourth in the shot put

·         Weight throw had senior Alicia Hester finish 51' 3”

·         Senior Malcolm Chavis' time of 49.41 was sixth in the 400m

·         Domenick D'Agostino also was sixth in the mile (4:18.28)

·         Greg Stickle cleared 21'9” in the long jump for fifth

·         Michael Pepper (45' 4 ½”) and Sosoo (45' 2 ½”) finished 4-5 in the triple jump
