HAWKS FINISH 10TH AT SFA STORMIN' LADYJACK CLASSIC

HOUSTON, TX - The Monmouth University women's bowling team finished 10th at the Stephen F. Austin Stormin' Ladyjack Classic at Palace Lanes over the weekend. Monmouth, which competed against eight nationally-ranked teams, went 3-3 on Friday in Baker matches, 2-3 during Saturday's team games and 2-1 in Sunday's Championship Bracket.

On Friday, 16th-ranked Monmouth dropped its opening match to #7 Wisconsin-Whitewater before rebounding to win the next two matches against Grambling (898-682) and Southern (930-737). In match four, the Hawks fell to #2 Nebraska and surrendered a 923-909 decision to #23 Prairie View A&M in match five. In the final match of the day, the Blue & White registered a day's best 243 in game five to defeat Jackson State 1029-908.

In Saturday's competition, the Hawks started the day off with five straight strikes as junior Jessica Nannemann's (Waterford, WI/Waterford Union) 227 paced Monmouth to a 1024-885 victory over Texas Southern. After the Hawks fired a 900 in their bye round, the Blue & White dropped a 948-941 decision to #9 Fairleigh Dickinson. The Hawks then lost to #10 North Carolina A&T (988-927) despite sophomore Allison Carola's (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) 203, and junior Kaitlyn Reth's (Baltimore, MD/Overlea) 226 led Monmouth in a narrow defeat to #21 Tulane (936-927). In the final match of the middle day, the Hawks defeated Louisiana Tech 881-852.

Seeded 11th going into the Championship Bracket, Monmouth fell behind Jackson State in the first match on Sunday 2-1, but rebounded with three straight game triumphs, including a 225 and 233 in games five and six to defeat JSU 4-2. The Hawks defeated #7 Wisconsin-Whitewater in their next matchup 4-1, before falling to #14 LIU Brooklyn 4-1 in the final contest of the weekend to finish 10th overall. 

Monmouth returns to action February 26-28, when the Blue & White host the Hawk Flight Invitational at Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick, NJ.
