BOWLING FINISHES SIXTH AT PRAIRIE VIEW A&M INVITATIONAL

ARLINGTON, TX - In a field that featured five school's from last year's NCAA Championships, the Monmouth University Bowling team finished sixth overall at the Prairie View A&M Invitational at the International Training & Research Center over the weekend. Monmouth, ranked 17th in the most recent National Tenpin Coaches Association poll, finished sixth by total pinfall. The Hawks, who registered a win over the nation's top team on Friday, was led by junior Kaitlyn Reth (Baltimore, MD/Overlea), who finished 20th overall as an individual.

Reth carded a 198.33 average at the event to claim 20th position, while junior Jessica Nannemann (Waterford, WI/Waterford Union) placed 28th with a 190.17 average to lead the Hawks.

On Friday's competition of Baker total pinfall matches, Monmouth went 1-3, with the victory coming over #1 Arkansas State (1058-1025) in the day's second match. Monmouth's three defeats came to #4 Sam Houston State (963-1040), #3 Vanderbilt (922-1117) and #8 Stephen F. Austin (944-970), the 2015 NCAA runner-up.

During Saturday's five traditional team games, the Hawks went 1-4 overall, starting off with a 924-891 victory over #19 Tulane, in which Nannemann carded a 207 and senior Mariah Jacobson (Kiester, MN/United South Central) rolled a 204. Senior Valerie Bermudez (Guayanabo, Puerto Rico/Cupey Maria Montessori) inked a 208 the MU's 903-849 defeat to Texas Southern, while the Hawks fell to #2 Nebraska (last year's National Champion) 1116-863 in match three of the day. Despite a 1094-985 loss to #10 UMES, Reth fired a team-best 248 in game four. The Hawks' final match of the day was a 1024-939 loss to #21 Prairie View, in which Nannemann rolled a 234, Reth carded a 219 and sophomore Allison Carola (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) recorded a 202.

Monmouth opened Sunday with one final traditional team game, a narrow loss to North Carolina A&T (939-953), in which Bermudez led the Blue & White with a 204. The Hawks answered with a 4-1 victory over #10 UMES in a best 4-of-7 Baker game, before falling to NCA&T 4-2 to conclude the weekend.

Monmouth returns to action February 12-14, when the Hawks compete at the Stephen F. Austin Stormin' Ladyjack Classic at Palace Lanes in Houston, Texas.
