BOWLING COMPETES AT KUTZTOWN INVITATIONAL OVER THE WEEKENED

READING, PA - Led by junior Kaitlyn Reth's (Baltimore, MD/Overlea) Second Team All-Tournament selection, the No. 17 Monmouth University women's bowling team finished 4-7 overall at the weather-shortened Kutztown Invitational over the weekend. The tournament's second day of competition was cancelled due to the blizzard, while Reth's 1,049 total pin fall (209.8 average) on the final day of play earned her the accolade.

On Friday, Monmouth went 3-3 in six Baker total pin fall matches, defeating #13 Saint Francis University (1025-950), Medaille (880-838) and #11 Delaware State (950-896) to open the day. The Hawks then dropped matches to #7 Fairleigh Dickinson (927-1078), #16 Kutztown (948-988) and #22 Sacred Heart (863-971) to end Friday's session.

Following an off day due to the weather conditions, the tournament board switched Sundays' schedule to a five-match Team Game competition.

Monmouth narrowly dropped game one to #14 LIU Brooklyn (882-898), and Reth's 229 in game two was not enough to guide the Hawks to a victory in game two, as the Blue & White fell to #11 Delaware State (970-1033). Reth carded a day's best 236 in Monmouth's loss to #8 Stephen F. Austin (945-1059) in game three, while senior Mariah Jacobson's (Kiester, MN/United South Central) 214 paced the Hawks to a victory over #16 Kutztown. Jacobson's 217 again led the Hawks in game five, a defeat to #9 McKendree.

Head Coach Karen Grygiel said, "It was not an ideal start to the semester, but our performance told us what we need to improve upon for the upcoming events."

Monmouth returns to action next weekend, when the Hawks travel to the Bowling International Training and Research Center in Arlington, TX to compete in the Prairie View A&M Invitational, January 29th through the 31st.
