RAMPONE, TEAM USA DEFEAT JAPAN TO WIN WWC

Former Monmouth University standout Christie Rampone and the United States Women's National Soccer Team captured the 2015 Women's World Cup with a resounding 5-2 win over Japan on Sunday in Vancouver. Rampone, the team's captain since 2008 and a member of the National Team since 1997, has now won two WWC titles.

The team's incredible performance in the final included four goals in the first 16 minutes. The US is now the most successful team in the history of the World Cup with three titles, breaking a tie with Germany.

Rampone is currently the second most-capped member of the USWNT with over 300 caps, and her appearance in this WWC made her just one of two Americans to appear in five World Cups - man or woman (Kristine Lilly). Rampone is now one of five women all-time to play in five World Cups, joining Lilly, Brazil's Formiga, Germany's Birgit Prinz and Japan's Homare Sawa.

Monmouth's all-time leading scorer in soccer with 79 goals, 54 assists and 212 points, Rampone, who has appeared in five World Cups and four Olympic Games, now has two WWC Championships and three Olympic Gold Medals in her 19 year career with the National Team.
