WILLIAMSBURG, Va.. – Netminder Alex Scott made six saves, but the Monmouth women's soccer team fell to William and Mary, 1-0, on Sunday, snapping a five-match winning streak.

The teams played to a scoreless first half, but constant second-half pressure from the Tribe finally gave way to the game-winning goal with 12 minutes to play, dropping the Hawks to 5-3 in CAA play.

Scott made a save 15 minutes in on the first shot on goal by either team.  Monmouth's offense fired just one shot in the first half, courtesy of Emily De Almeida, but was unable to challenge Gwen Doughty in net. Scott made another stop late in the frame to keep the game scoreless heading into the halftime locker rooms.

In the second half, Scott continued her strong performance, making a pair of acrobatic saves to stave off an onslaught from the Tribe, leaving the match scoreless through 67 minutes. In the 71st minute, the sophomore goalkeeper made her fifth stop of the afternoon.

Marie Bouge and Clara Ford's second-half shots each sailed wide, leaving the Hawks still scoreless.

After 12 shots through the first 77 minutes, William and Mary broke the deadlock in the 78th minute, sneaking a shot past Scott to give the home side a 1-0 lead with just over 11 minutes remaining. The Tribe bid for a 2-0 lead three minutes later, but Scott was up to the challenge to keep the Hawks within striking distance.

Monmouth was unable to find the back of the nets in the waning moments, falling in conference play for the first time since Sept. 21.
