NORFOLK, Va.. – The Monmouth women's soccer team exploded for four goals, defeating Hampton, 4-0, on Thursday afternoon to clinch a berth in the 2025 CAA tournament.
Ashley Lavrich and Summer Reimet each scored a goal and added a pair of assists, combining for eight points in the Hawks' fifth consecutive victory. Chloe Messer tallied her third goal in the last four games, and Lindsey Husic found the back of the net for the first time in her three-year career.
In her first start between the pipes, Alex Scott held Hampton scoreless, making a pair of saves in the process. The Monmouth backline earned its second straight clean sheet and sixth shutout of the season
Lavrich put the game's first shot on goal in the 6th minute, blasting a right-footed attempt straight into the arms of Pirates keeper Avery John. Seven minutes later, Loren Gehret got a clean look at net, but a diving stop from John kept Monmouth temporarily off the board.
The Hawks finally broke through in the 26th minute when Husic was on the receiving end of Reimet's cross and buried a goal over John's right shoulder, putting the Hawks up 1-0. Monmouth continued to pressure, putting five total shots on net in the opening 45 minutes, but was unable to break through again, heading into halftime up a goal.
The Hawks' defensive line did not allow a shot on net in the first half, limiting Hampton to just three attempts total.
Early in the second half, Messer looked to continue her recent offensive success when she forced a goalkeeper save with a shot from 20 yards out. She wouldn't miss her next opportunity, heading Lavrich's corner kick cross into the back of the net in the 57th minute, doubling the Monmouth lead.
The Hawks kept their foot on the gas as Reimet scored off Lavrich's second helper of the game in the 61st minute, making it 3-0. Reimet returned the favor six minutes later, assisting Lavrich's goal that made it 4-0 in the 69th minute.
Head Coach Kylee Flynn Postgame:
"Another great team win today. We created a lot of chances in the attack and connected on a few, which is always fun!
