WOMEN'S BOWLING OPENS SEASON AT FDU JAMBOREE

NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Monmouth University women's bowling team opened its 2015-16 season at the FDU Jamboree this past weekend, finishing the 26-team competition with a record of 6-6 over the three days at Carolier Lanes.

"Overall it was a decent performance for us. We learned a lot about our strengths and weaknesses on the lanes and what we need to improve upon going into our next tournament," stated head coach Karen Grygiel. "We had some very close matches that we did not quite finish out, so our key focus going into this next event is staying focused and executing so we can close out those matches with a win by filling frames."

On day one of traditional matches, Monmouth went 3-2 overall, posting victories over #14 LIU Brooklyn (886-838) and Saint Peter's (893-683), where senior Valerie Bermudez rolled a team-high 218 against the Peacocks in the first two contests. The Hawks dropped their next match to Sacred Heart (954-884) and fell to UMES despite junior Jessica Nannemann's team-best 244, while UMES sophomore Melanie Copey tossed a perfect game 300. Monmouth rallied in its final traditional match of the session to defeat Bethune-Cookman 894-876.

Monmouth went 2-3 on the second day of traditional matches, dropping decisions to Caldwell (862-853) and St. Francis Brooklyn (923-905), before Bermudez's 203 led the Hawks to a 928-894 victory over #9 McKendree University. After the Hawks fell to Franklin Pierce (943-928), sophomore Allison Carola's 222 guided the Blue & White to a 983-945 win over Felician.

The third day of action was a best 4-of-7 Baker Format, where the Hawks went 1-1 on the day. After trailing two games to one, Monmouth rallied to win the final three games by an average of 32 pins to claim a 4-2 victory over Caldwell College. In MU's game two win, the Hawks rolled a team score of 226. Monmouth was defeated by Bethune-Cookman in the second Baker match 4-2, with winning game scores of 222 and 212 for the Blue & White.

Monmouth returns to action this upcoming weekend when the Hawks compete at the Crusader Classic, hosted by Valparaiso University at the Inmen's Recreation Center in Valparaiso, Indiana.
