MILLSBORO, Del. – The Monmouth University women's bowling team finished 14th in the UMES Hawk Classic at the Millsboro Lanes in Millsboro, Del. this weekend. Sophomore Jessica Nannemann (Waterford, Wis./ Waterford Union) led the Blue and White with a 25th place individual finish, posting an average of 192.17 as MU went 4-11 in the three-day tournament.
The Hawks started the weekend off with two wins in their first three games, defeating Kutztown (937-884) and Adelphi University (910-858) while falling to St. Francis PA, Stephen F. Austin, Kutztown, and Norfolk State to complete the first day. Mariah Jacobson (Kiester, Minn./United South Central [Riverland C.C.]) led Monmouth with a 215 against Kutztown in the opening game.
MU went into Saturday with a record of 2-4 on the weekend and started off day two with five straight losses. Monmouth ended the day with a win against Howard 936-847, and Valerie Bermudez (Guayanabo, Puerto Rico /Cupey Maria Montessori) led the Hawks in that win with a high of 225, Monmouth's highest game of the day.
Monmouth entered the final day with a record of 3-9. The Hawks ended the weekend with a win over Franklin Pierce, while falling twice on Sunday to Adelphi. Julie Bianco (Holtwood, Pa./Penn Manor) posted Monmouth's high score of the weekend on Sunday with a 266 in the win over FPU.
Individually, Nannemann bowled to an average of 192.17 to lead the Hawks this weekend. Her total pinfall was 1,153. Bermudez also posted a strong weekend, with an average of 185.67 and a high game of 265 against Adelphi on Sunday.
The Hawks return to the lanes next weekend, beginning on November 21st for the Track Kat Klash in Houston, Texas at 10:00 a.m.
