WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Monmouth University freshman forward
Alexis McTamney (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season on Monday afternoon. McTamney, who has helped guide the Hawks to a 10-1 overall record and 4-0 mark in league play, registered a team-high seven points in MU's 2-0 week.
McTamney, who now leads the Hawks with 21 points, registered two goals and three assists, for seven points in Monmouth's 2-0 week. The forward, who notched a goal and three assists for the Hawks in a 6-0 win over Manhattan, netted her team-high eighth goal in MU's 2-0 victory over Fairfield, the preseason MAAC favorite on Saturday, her fourth game-winner of the season.
Against the Jaspers, McTamney assisted on MU's first goal and two of the next three scores, while notching an unassisted tally just 3:05 into the second stanza. The freshman, who attempted eight shots, five of which were on frame on the week, scored unassisted against Fairfield as well, corralling a pass from classmate
Julie Spracklin (Eastampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional), beat a pair of defenders and fired a low-liner into the far corner.
McTamney, who became the first Hawk since November 1, 2009 (
Courtney Snyder) to register three assists in a single game in the win over Manhattan, now ranks second in the league in assists, goals and points.
The Hawks, ranked seventh in the NSCAA's Northeast Region, are 10-1 overall, and 4-0 in the MAAC, and have posted eight shutouts, leading to the nation's fifth-best shutout percentage and ninth best goals-against-average (0.455). Monmouth has now posted its eighth straight season with a double-digit win total.
Monmouth returns to action on Wednesday afternoon, when the Hawks travel to Iona College for a 3:00 p.m. MAAC match.
