WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth women's soccer team scored three unanswered goals to defeat Stony Brook, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon in West Long Branch, N.J.
After falling behind 1-0 early, Summer Reimet scored a pair of goals, bookending freshman Evangeline Perdomo's go-ahead score, to give Monmouth the victory in a rematch of the 2024 CAA championship game.
The Hawks started fast offensively, putting three shots on goal in the game's opening five minutes. Stony Brook weathered the pressure and took a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute, scoring on its first shot of the afternoon. Reimet brought the home side level 11 minutes later, finishing a cross from rookie Brooke De Almeida, who earned her second assist of the season.
Perdomo put Monmouth in front in the 39th minute with her second goal of the season. Fellow rookie Alex Dreihaup carried the ball herself all the way down the right sideline before sending a right-footed cross into the box, allowing Perdomo to score with a diving header. Dreihaup picked up the first assist of her career on the goal.
Strong defensive play early in the second half opened the opportunity for the Hawks to extend the lead. Off a strong defensive play in the 49th minute, Ashley Lavrich was sprung loose up the middle of the field on the counterattack and fed Loren Gehret. Gehret's shot was deflected by Stony Brook goalkeeper Jona Hennings and landed right at the feet of Reimet, who buried her second of the afternoon.
The Seawolves were only able to put one shot on goal for the remainder of the game, as the Monmouth defense continued to impress, leading the Hawks to their first CAA victory of 2025.
Head Coach Kylee Flynn Postgame:
"What a game! I am so proud of the way our players responded and came together after the unfortunate CAA start. We had a lot to prove today and they were focused and determined to get the result.
