PHILADELPHIA – The Monmouth women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory on the road against Drexel on Thursday night at Vidas Field in Philadelphia.
Chloe Messer's second-half goal was the difference for the Hawks (7-4-1, 2-2 CAA), as the defense posted its fourth shutout of the 2025 season.
Loren Gehret was credited with her fifth assist of the season, and
Tallulah Miller continued her strong season between the pipes for Monmouth, making four saves, helping to hand Drexel its first conference loss of the season.
The Hawks put their first of five first-half shots on net just two minutes in when Gehret forced Dragon's keeper Sammy Widnick to make a save. After Miller made a diving stop in the 14
th minute, the Hawks continued on the attack as Gehret and
Summer Reimet peppered Widnick with attempts at net, but were unable to break through.
Brooke De Almeida and Reimet put shots on goal late in the half, but two more saves kept the game scoreless. In the waning minutes of the opening 45, the Dragons had their best scoring chance of the game, but Miller made an acrobatic one-on-one save to send the teams into the halftime locker rooms knotted at 0-0.
Four minutes out of the break, the Hawks capitalized on their fourth corner kick of the evening to open the scoring. Gehret sent in a cross that found the head of Messer. The junior's attempt hit the crossbar and bounced across the goal line, putting Monmouth up 1-0.
Miller made her third save of the contest in the 57
th minute to keep the Hawks in the lead. The Monmouth offense continued to apply pressure, putting another shot on goal off the foot of
Clara Ford in the 75
th minute.
With just over 10 minutes remaining and the Hawks clinging to their one-goal advantage, Drexel had a free kick in a dangerous position, but another diving stop from Miller thwarted the danger. The Monmouth offense took control the rest of the way, leading the Hawks to its second straight victory.
