NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Monmouth University baseball team had its seven-game winning streak snapped with a 3-1 setback to Central Connecticut State, Friday afternoon at CCSU Baseball Field.  Pat Light (Colts Neck, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) suffered his first Northeast Conference defeat despite striking out four without yielding a walk. 

With the loss, the Hawks fall to 20-13 (9-4 NEC) on the year, while the Blue Devils improve to 17-14 (10-7 NEC) with the victory.

Central struck in its first trip to the plate as Dylan DelaCruz connected on a RBI triple to left center field, scoring Jake Matuszak, who singled to lead off the inning.  The Blue Devils tacked a run in the bottom of the fourth as DelaCruz came in to touch home on an infield groundout after reaching on an error.

Monmouth cut CCSU's lead in half in the top of the sixth as Jake Gronsky (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) was hit with a pitch with two outs and came all away around to score on Danny Avella's (Matawan, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) RBI double to the right center field gap, making the score 2-1.

Mitch Wells, who doubled to start the home half of the sixth, scored on a double play to give the Blue Devils an insurance run and increase their lead to 3-1.

Jamie Rosenkranz (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) connected on two base hits for the Blue and White, while Christ Perret (Morris Plains, N.J./Morris Catholic) reached base three time on a single and two free passes.

CCSU's starter Harry Glynne picked up his second win of the season, hurling 7.0 innings with eight strike outs.

Neil Harm (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) worked a one-hit inning out of the Hawks' bullpen.

Monmouth and Central Connecticut will continue its NEC series tomorrow with a doubleheader slated for 1 p.m.
