BOCA RATON, FLA. - The Monmouth University baseball team dropped the second game of a three game series, 6-2, to host Florida Atlantic, Saturday night at FAU Baseball Stadium. The Hawks, who received four scoreless innings from their bullpen, fall to 2-3 on the season while the Owls improve to 9-3 with the win.
FAU scored four runs in the first inning on RBI hits by Dan Scheffler, Alex Hudak, and Nick Delguidice while also taking advantage of a Ryan Terry (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) fielding error. The Owls tacked on two more runs in the bottom half of the third on Hudak two-run home run off MU sophomore starter Pat Light (Colts Neck, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) to push their lead to 6-0.
Monmouth got on the board in the top of the sixth as senior Nick Pulsonetti (Old Tappan, N.J./Northern Valley Regional) took the first pitch from Owls' starter Paul Davis over the left field wall for his first home run of the season, scoring Terry who doubled to lead off the frame, bringing the Hawks within four, 6-2.
Junior Jamie Rosenkranz (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) recorded his third multi-hit game of the season with singles in the fourth and sixth inning.
Light (0-2) was saddled with the loss for Monmouth, allowing six runs, four which were earned, on seven hits while striking out three. Nick McNamara (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) and Neil Harm (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) combined to throw four scoreless frames in relief out of the bullpen. Davis threw 6.0 innings for FAU allowing two runs on six Monmouth hits to earn the win.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow, March 6th, in the series finale with the Owls beginning at noon.
