BOWLING BOWS OUT OF NEC CHAMPIONSHIP

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J.- The inaugural season of Division I bowling for Monmouth University came to an end over the weekend as Monmouth fell to eventual Northeast Conference runners up Adelphi on Saturday.

Monmouth, the eighth seed going into the tournament had the daunting task of facing top-seeded and top-ranked Fairleigh Dickenson in its first match.  The Hawks were able to win one of the best of seven Baker matches, upending the defending National Champion Knights in game two of the series, 207-204.  The Hawks eventually fell to FDU by a score of 4-1, sending them to face Adelphi.

MU fell to the fourth-seeded Panthers by a score of 4-2, winning the second (198-194) and third (225-172) matches of the best of seven format.  Adelphi went on to win three more matches to face FDU in the 2011 NEC Bowling Championship.  Fairleigh Dickenson went on to win the title by defeating Adelphi 4-1 in the finals.

The NEC features six of the top 15 teams in the country currently ranked by the National Tenpin Coaches Association.

MU and Saint Peter's were tied eighth in the conference at the end of the regular season, but MU earned a bid to the 2011 NEC Tournament by way of head to head record (2-1 against the Peahens in regular season play).

Monmouth ends the season with a 46-68 (8-19 NEC) record in head to head competition.
