Kutztown, Pa.- Monmouth University's
women's bowling team placed 15th (out of 28 teams) at the 2011
Kutztown Invitational last weekend with an effort highlighted by freshman Brittany
Havens' (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) 21st place finish.
The event featured 13 of the
nation's top-20 ranked teams (according to the latest release of the NTCA Poll)
including Vanderbilt, UMES, Fairleigh Dickinson and host Kutztown among
others. Vanderbilt claimed first place
with 11,291 pins and an 11-4 head to head record on the weekend. MU was swept in its three best-of-seven baker
matches but rebounded with five head to head victories.
On day two of the competition, MU downed NEC foe Long Island 1008-989 before
besting Bethune-Cookman 875-817. The
Hawks closed out the day with an impressive 1074-1030 victory over top-ranked
UMES.
Havens' 1,202 pins took home 21
st out of over 180 scored
competitors. Sophomore Emily Fiore (Toms
River, N.J./Toms River East) placed 23rd while Jolisa Aquino (North
Bergen, N.J./High Tek) finished in 40th (1142 pins). Monmouth junior Rikki Del Donno (Fairless
Hills, Pa./Pennsbury [FDU]) placed 62nd with 1038 pins.
The Hawks will take on the rest of the Northeast Conference in the NEC match #2
slated to take place on Saturday, Feb. 5
th.
