Connecticut - The Monmouth University men's tennis team drop two Northeast Conference road contests in Connecticut this past weekend. On Saturday, Monmouth lost to Quinnipiac 4-3 in Hamden, and Sunday the Blue and White fell to defending NEC champion Sacred Heart, 6-1 in Fairfield.
Against the Bobcats, the Hawks earned a victory at first singles as sophomore Laurence Heads (Stockton-On-Tees, England/Repton School) defeated Brian Mikkelson, 7-5, 6-1. Classmate David Sherwood (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands) outlasted Andrew Weeden at third singles in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 7-6. Harvey Bhalla (Buckinghamshire, England/Dr. Challoner's Grammar School) beat James Kwei, 6-3, 6-4 at fourth singles, earning Monmouth their third point.
Ian Terpilowski (Mount Macedon, Victoria, Australia/Braemar College) lost at second singles, 6-4, 6-2. Ben Dashiell (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Spirit Prep) fell in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 and Oliver Grimbley (Johannesburg, South Africa) was defeated 6-2, 6-0 and at sixth singles.
Quinnipiac earned the deciding doubles point by sweeping the three matches with scores of 8-5, 8-6, and 8-7.
Monmouth dropped its second match of the weekend against Sacred Heart, 6-1. The lone point registered by Monmouth was at fourth singles as Harvey Bhalla beat Nick Mazzarese 6-2, 6-1.
The Pioneers won points at first, second, third, fifth and sixth singles and took the doubles point from MU by winning two of the three doubles matches.
Currently, the Hawks are 4-8 on the spring championship season.
Monmouth concludes its road trip this Wednesday as they travel Queens, N.Y. for a nonconference match with St. John's. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
