Monmouth University women's bowling team wrapped up the fall portion of
the 2010-11 schedule with a 10th place finish at the 2010 St.
Paul's Jeanette Lee Invitation last weekend.
"This past
weekend was a great way to finish up our first semester of competition," said
head coach Karen Grygiel. "This weekend, we met new goals and plan to continue
reaching new heights when we return to competition in the spring. The level of
competition this team has exhibited in its first year is inspiring."
The Hawks finished 10th out of a field of 22, while recording a new
game-high of 1,009 on the weekend. MU finished
with a 9-5 record during the two-day event, the best head to head win-loss
percentage of the young season.
Individually, it was Brittany Havens (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Reg.) which
led the Hawks with a 193.33 average, while junior Rikki Del Donno (Fairless
Hills, Pa./Pennsbury [FDU])
held a 178.8 average and Emily Fiore (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) had a
174.8. MU had three bowlers with more
than 1,000 pins knocked down over the weekend.
In Sunday's baker match play format, the Hawks defeated Bowie State (964-815)
in their opening round match before topping Virginia Union by a score of 1,389-1,286
in the next match. The Hawks ultimately
lost to conference foe Long Island to claim 10
th place.
Monmouth, which owns a 23-26 record, will have a bit of a break before
returning to compete in the Kutztown Invitational on January 28-30.
