WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Playing its third conference game this week, the Monmouth University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to visiting Robert Morris on Sunday afternoon, as junior Ayana Davis netted both scores for the Colonials. Monmouth, which entered the match 4-0 at home on The Great Lawn, falls to 6-4-1 overall, and 1-1-1 in the Northeast Conference.
"Credit to Robert Morris for coming to play today," stated head coach Krissy Turner. "We did not play near to our potential and will need to get back to work tomorrow, to get refocused for Friday."
Robert Morris (5-6-1, 2-1 NEC), which registered consecutive road victories this week in league play, got on the board in the 16th minute, when junior Jess Sharik sent a pass between two Monmouth defenders to Davis, who one-timed a shot from the top of the box towards the far post.
The Colonials pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 75th minute, when Davis corralled a pass from junior Brianna Bell and one-timed it to the far post for her second score of the game, and team-leading seventh tally of the year.
Monmouth outshot Robert Morris 12-8 in the match, forcing Colonials' goalkeeper Jessica Olin to make six saves, while Hawks' senior netminder Lia Fierro made four saves.
Monmouth also held a 9-3 edge in corner kick opportunities.
Monmouth returns to action on Friday, when the Hawks travel to Quinnipiac for a Northeast Conference match with the Bobcats at 3:30 p.m.
