GORDON, NICOLA HONORED WITH NORTHEAST CONFERENCE WEEKLY AWARDS

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Monmouth University senior Heather Gordon (Hatboro, Pa./Mount St. Joseph's) and freshman Jessica Nicola (South Amboy, N.J./Sayreville) have been named the Northeast Conference's Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Monday.

This marks the third time this season, and second week in a row, that Gordon has been named the NEC Player of the Week, while Nicola takes Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this year.

Gordon continued her offensive assault, batting .700 this past week in helping Monmouth go 4-0. The senior scored seven runs, drove in six, smacked five doubles and also walked five times, including being intentionally walked twice against FDU.

The senior continued to re-write the MU record book this week, as the school's all-time leader in home runs and RBI also set the all-time single season school record for runs batted in during the first game of a doubleheader against Saint Peter's on a two-RBI single in the bottom of the first. On the afternoon, Gordon went a combined 5-for-7 with six RBI in the two wins against the Peahens.

She went 2-for-3 in the two games with FDU, also a pair of MU wins, but she was walked four times. Both of her hits were doubles, and she scored three runs in the two games. A versatile player, she also pitched a complete-game, three-hitter in the second contest to pick up her second win of the season in the circle.

Continuing her impressive rookie campaign, Nicola batting .500 on the week, which included two doubles and a home run. She drove in six runs this week, and also crossed the plate herself three times. She led the offensive charge against Saint Peter's, going a combined 4-7 with three extra-base hits and four RBI in the Hawks' sweep on Wednesday afternoon. She also ended the second FDU game with a run-scoring single to put Monmouth up by eight in the bottom of the sixth.

The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, April 18 when they travel to Lehigh for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
