Monmouth Downs Towson 6-3, Secures Series Win

TOWSON, MD. — Monmouth softball secured the series against Towson with a 6–3 victory on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Softball Stadium.

With the win, the Hawks earned their third straight CAA victory. After two scoreless innings, Monmouth broke through in the top of the third when Bri Lawson delivered an RBI single. Ella Stevinson followed with an RBI double to extend the lead to 2–0, bringing Lawson
home.


Towson answered in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to one, but Carah Sumpter quickly responded with a solo home run, her sixth of the season to restore a two-run advantage. The Tigers again pulled within one run after capitalizing on a walk and a wild pitch.

Monmouth added insurance in the later innings. Bri Lawson drove in two more runs with a two-RBI single to make it 5–2, and Stevinson added another RBI single to extend the lead to 6–2.

Towson managed to get one run back in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single, but the Hawks held on to secure the 6–3 win and the series.

  • The Hawks won their third straight CAA game to improve to 7-10 overall in conference action
  • Carah Sumpter went yard with a solo home run for her sixth long ball of the season
  • Carah Sumpter also picked up the win in the circle for her fourth win of the season. Sumpter threw a complete game, throwing all seven innings, striking out three batters
  • Ella Stevinson hit a double, tallying her 11th one of the season for a team-high
