Fast Start Propels Hawks to 7–5 Win Over Stony Brook

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Monmouth softball capped its series against Stony Brook with a 7–5 win on Sunday at a packed Youth Day crowd at MU Softball Park.

Stony Brook opened the scoring with a first-inning home run, but Monmouth answered immediately, tying the game at 1–1 on an RBI double by Mackenzie Bloss.

Monmouth  took control in the third inning. Dominique Lopez sparked the rally with an RBI triple, and Gianna Stern followed with a two-run double to score Bloss and Ella Stevinson. Kaitlynn Place added another RBI double to extend the lead to 6–1.

Stevinson provided further insurance in the fifth inning with a solo home run, pushing the advantage to 7–1.

Stony Brook rallied in the seventh, plating four runs to cut the deficit, but Monmouth held firm. Alissa Eimont got the start in the circle, and Carah Sumpter came on in relief with the tying run at the plate to secure the victory.

  • Monmouth improved to 5-10  in the CAA with the win
  • The Hawks tallied four doubles on Sunday
  • Ella Stevinson recorded her third home run of the season
  • Mackenzie Bloss tallied a game-high of three hits and was the lone Hawk to record multiple hits on Sunday
  • The Hawks tallied seven runs on eight hits, with six of of their eight hits being extra base hits
  • Alissa Eimont earned the seventh win of the season. Eimont totaled a game-high of five strikeouts, throwing 92 total pitches
