EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.- With a portion of the team competing in New York at the New Balance Collegiate Invite, the remainder of Monmouth University's track & field squad traveled to East Stroudsburg University to compete in the Deschriver Invitational.
On the men's side, sophomore Marcus Lewis (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) picked a fifth place finish in the 55m dash finals, crossing the line at 6.65. Lewis also was fifth in the long jump, clearing 21'3 ?”. Jude Rene (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton North) also finished seventh in that event, jumping 21' 1 ?”. MU's Michael Buccheri (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) cleared 5' 11 ?” in the high jump, good enough for eighth place.
Matt Caporaso (Matawan, N.J./Old Bridge) picked up an eighth place finish in the one mile (4:31.06), while freshman Derrik Keich's (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) run of 52.54 gave him sixth in the 400m. Randy Hadzor (Lafayette, N.Y./Lafayette) placed seventh in the 3,000m, crossing the finish line in 9:07.38.
A pair of freshmen women placed in the top-10 in the 3,000m for MU, as Meredith Malloy (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) took home eighth (11:22.35) and Corinne LaChac (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) finished ninth (11:23.96) in the event.
In the pole vault, MU sophomore Christina Fatale's (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) vault of 9'11 ?” was fifth, while Shannon Rogers (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) was sixth in the high jump (5'1 ?”). Marykate Walsh (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) took home ninth in the triple jump with her leap of 33'11 ?”.
The Hawks will come together as a full squad next weekend when they head to Landover, Md. to compete for the NEC Indoor Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
