NEW YORK, N.Y.- Monmouth University's track and field team wrapped up a successful day at the New Balance Collegiate Invite on Saturday night.
The women's 4x400 squad of Michelle Losey (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway), Crystal Stein (Stewartstown, Pa./Susquehannak), Illiana Blackshear (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) and Latasha Dickson (Aberdeen, N.J./Matawan) finished first in their heat and fourth overall with a new school record of 3:49.25.
The men's 4x200 team of Jerome St. Bernard (Markham, Ontario/Michael McGivney), Dave Martell (Gibbsboro, N.J./Eastern Regional), Chris Taiwo (Budd Lake, N.J./Mt. Olive) and Darrin Chandler (Hackensack, N.J./Paramus Catholic) took fourth with a time of 1:30.32, good enough for second on MU's all-time list.
The 4x800 relay team of Bill Doherty (Madison, N.J./Madison), Larry Schau (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville), Ryan Madrid (Clifton, N.J./Paramus Catholic) and Dave Gaines (Freehold, N.J./Colts Neck) took home an IC4A qualifying time of 7:42.90. The women's 4x800 team of Asha Arneth (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial), Laura Embrey (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional), Cailin Lynam (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) and Aracelis Lantigua (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) finished ninth overall, crossing the tape at 9:34.08.
Lynam, Embrey and fellow freshman Rachel Ruggiano (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) all ran the women's mile, with each of them breaking the Monmouth freshman record in the event. Lynam finished in 5:15.63, Embrey in 5:16.93 and Ruggiano finished in 5:20.34.
Monmouth was one of 75 collegiate teams at the meet, which featured over 1,500 of the nation's top athletes.
The Hawks will compete in the Northeast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, where the men will look to defend their championship and the women will look to capture first after narrowly coming in second last season.
