WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Monmouth University senior Ashley Huffman is preparing to compete at the U.S. Indoor Championships this weekend after qualifying in the long jump at last weekend's Princeton Invitational.
Huffman's school record long jump of 19' 11 ?” at Princeton is ninth best in the nation. MU senior Tisifenee Taylor, competing unattached, also qualified for this weekend's event with a jump of 20' ?”, which is eighth best in the country. The U.S. Indoor Championships will be held on Feb. 24-25 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
Huffman and Taylor's jumps will be on Saturday while event will be televised on ESPN2 on Sunday (tape delayed) and the full schedule events is at www.usatf.org.
Huffman is still in the running to compete at the NCAAs in the pentathlon after scoring a school record 3,856 points earlier in the season, which is an NCAA provisional mark. The Ward Melville High School product will have a chance to improve her score at the U.S. Combined Events in Chapel Hill, N.C. on March 4th.
A select group of Hawks will travel to the N.Y. Armory on Friday night to compete in the NYU Fastrack. The following weekend the women will compete in the ECAC Championships while the men will compete at the IC4A Championships, each with the goal of qualifying for the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships on March 9 and 10.
