MONMOUTH TRACK & FIELD EARNS THREE NEC WEEKLY AWARDS

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Three Monmouth University track & field athletes took home Northeast Conference weekly honors, league officials announced on Tuesday afternoon.

On the women's side, sophomores Crystal Stein (Stewartstown, Pa./Susquehanna) and Jenn Tarsan (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) earned NEC Track and Field Athlete of the Week, respectively.

Stein came close to earning an ECAC qualifying mark in two events at the Princeton Invitational.  The sophomore took second in the 500m, then helped the Hawks earn a second place finish in the 4x400 relay.  Her 500-meter time of 1:17.09 was a mere 1.09 off the ECAC standard, while the 4x4 clocked in at 3:55.00, 1.06 seconds short of the qualifying mark.

Tarsan earns her first Field Athlete of the Week after earning second place in the triple jump at Princeton.  Her distance of 38' 2” was the third best indoor mark in Monmouth history. She was seven centimeters off of qualifying for the ECACs.

Senior Chris Vuono (Wall, N.J./Christian Brother's Academy) took home Track Athlete of the Week after taking home first in a pair of races at Princeton.  The sprinter earned a first place finish and an IC4A qualifying time in the 500m after crossing the line in 1:04.61.  He also anchored the winning 4x400 relay team, which missed qualifying for the post-season event by just over two seconds.

The three awards are the first won by Monmouth track and field athletics in the Indoor season.
