Monmouth Field Hockey Lands Three on U21 Ireland Pathway Squad

Charlie Bowman, Maia McCourt and Eabha Curran secure spot on 23-man roster for Irish women’s field hockey U21 team

West Long Branch, NJ — Ireland Hockey announced its extended U21 women's field hockey roster ahead of the EuroHockey Championships this summer with three Hawks landing on the 23-man squad.

Featured from Monmouth on the U21 Pathway Squad was rising junior goalkeeper Charlie Bowman, rising sophomore midfielder Maia McCourt and incoming freshman Eabha Curran.

"I'm incredibly proud of all three of them," said Hawks coach Carli Figlio. "Representing your country is one of the highest honors an athlete can achieve, and each of them has earned this opportunity through their hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence. They embody the qualities we value at Monmouth — competitiveness, resilience and relentless work ethic. To see them represent both their countries and Monmouth University on the national stage is truly special and I couldn't be more proud of what they've accomplished."

Both men's and women's U21 Ireland Pathway squads were announced via Ireland Hockey team accounts with the 18-man roster finalizing Saturday. The 2026 U21 Euro Championships are set to begin July 21 through Aug. 1 in Valencia, Spain.

Bowman and McCourt both led Monmouth to a regular season CAA title this past fall, including the program's third straight CAA Finals appearance with the Hawks also securing its highest national ranking at No. 11 in the NFHCA national poll. Bowman, from Hillsborough, Northern Ireland, started all 17 games in goal for the Hawks and allowed mere 1.77 goals against average with a near 75 percent save percentage. McCourt, from Cork, Ireland, played in all 17 games as a freshman last season and aided in the midfield by providing two goals and two assists. Curran, from Cork like McCourt, will enter her first season with Monmouth for the upcoming 2026 season. She previously attended the University College Cork in Cork Ireland and was named as the International Athlete of the Year at UCC, while also representing Ireland in December at the Junior world Cup in Chile.

The Hawks look to continue its success in the CAA with aspirations of a CAA postseason title and an NCAA Tournament appearance this fall. The experience brought from the international stage by all three will no doubt help elevate the program when preseason begins in August.

"Competing at the international level provides experience, both physically and mentally," Figlio said. "They'll be challenged by elite competition, exposed to a different style of play, and pushed to grow in new ways. Those experiences will undoubtedly elevate their individual games, but just as importantly, they'll bring that knowledge, confidence and perspective back to our program. Their leadership and experiences can have a tremendous impact on their teammates as we prepare for the upcoming season and continue our pursuit of a championship."
