 Monmouth Secures Shutout vs. UMass, Falls to Bellarmine
MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. - Monmouth softball split a pair of games Saturday, falling 5-3 to Bellarmine in the first game of the day while downing UMass 5-0 in the second game to close out the doubleheader.Â
GAME 1:Bellarmine 5, Monmouth 3
The Knights plated the game's first five runs in the third inning to seize early control. Bellarmine got on the board with a two-run home run tospark the offense, then doubled down the left-field line to extend the lead to 3-0. The Knights continued to apply pressure, adding two more runs on a single down the left-field line to build a 5-0 advantage.
Kaitlynn Place helped the Hawks break through in the bottom of the fourth, grounding out to bring
Bri Lawson home for Monmouth's first run of the day.
The Hawks made one final push in the seventh inning.
Kylee McLain grounded out to shortstop, allowing Place to score, and
Ella Stevinson followed with a single through the left side to plate Â
Dominique Lopez.Despite the late rally, Monmouth couldn't complete the comeback as Bellarmine held on for the win.
GAME 2:Monmouth 5, UMass 0
Monmouth softball evened its record for day two at the Make it Happen Games in securing a 5-0 win over UMass. The Hawks broke things open with three runs in the fourth inning before adding two more in the fifth to seal the victory.

Jayla Cadena each drove in two runs to pace Monmouth's offense. In the circle,
Alissa Eimont went the distance, tossing a complete-game shutout to earn the Hawks' first shutout of the season. Eimont only allowed four hits, striking out two batters.Â
Monmouth's defense was sharp throughout, limiting UMass to zero runs and preserving the statement win to close out Saturday's doubleheader.
