HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.  - Monmouth softball dropped a 3–2 game to Hofstra in the series opener Thursday evening at Bill Edwards Stadium.

The Pride struck first with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. Monmouth answered in the top of the second, as Gianna Stern delivered an RBI single to score Mackenzie Bloss and tie the game at one.

Hofstra quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the second with a solo home run. The Hawks responded again in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from Liv Smith, scoring Kaitlynn Place, who had reached on a walk.

Hofstra took the lead for good later in the bottom of the fifth, using a two-out RBI single to secure the 3–2 victory. 

NOTES AND NUMBERS 

• Gianna Stern's RBI single gave her 28 RBIS on the season, tying Mackenzie Bloss for the team lead
• Alissa Eimont earned the start in the circle on Thursday, making her 22nd start of the season. Eimont finished with two strikeouts
• The Pride held a 7-4 edge in hits 
• Monmouth's four hits came from Gianna Stern, Ella Stevinson, Liv Smith and Mackenzie Bloss
