Tinsley's 21 Points Lead Monmouth Women at CAA Indoor Championships

February 27, 2025

Virginia Beach, VA - Monmouth totaled 63 points to post a seventh-place team finish in the women's track & field standings at the Coastal Athletic Association Indoor Championships.

Hampton won the two-day meet by scoring 110 points, edging second-place Elon (107.5). The Hawks finished in between sixth-place Towson (79) and eighth-place Delaware (25).

"Coming into this meet, we had high goals for our team and we achieved them. This was our highest finish in the CAA and we're continuing our upward trajectory in our conference," said acting head coach Jordan Torney. "I was very pleased with our level of aggressiveness. All of our athletes gave it all they had and really bought into supporting each other and being a team. This is something we need to build off of heading into outdoors, we have a lot of points to gain this spring."

Program record holder Yasmeen Tinsley individually accounted for 21 of the Hawks' points. She earned silver medals in the 60m hurdles and 400m dash while picking up fourth-place points in the 200m dash. Teammate Meredith Updike finished fourth overall in the hurdles.

Tinsley, who set school records in the hurdles, 60m dash and 200m dash this season, was tasked with running preliminaries and finals in three track events against top-tier competition, and the senior more than held her own. She finished 0.03 second off her 60-meter hurdles record and ended the meet by running the third leg of the Hawks' seventh-place 4x400m relay.

"Yasmeen ran some very fast times this week, but what was most impressive is the times she was able to hit consistently over both days. She competed in the most events in the CAA and had a lot of competition in all of her races. She did an amazing job of executing the race plans and rallying after each event," said Torney.

Veronica Chainov and Gretel Jelmert secured bronze medals in the horizontal jumps. Chainov cleared the winning height in the high jump, but settled for third due earlier misses. Jelmert matched the second-place pole vaulter, but needed one more attempt to do so.

Shot putter Vanessa Wood just missed out on a podium appearance with a fourth-place showing. Paola Valle scored in the triple jump and high jump.
