Monmouth Finishes with Nation’s Top Team GPA

February 18, 2025

MANAHAWKIN, N.J. – The Monmouth University Field Hockey Team has earned the nation's top program with a 3.84 team GPA, according to the 2024 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Academic Awards announcement on Tuesday morning.

"This is an extraordinary achievement for an incredibly hard-working team, and to say I'm proud would be an understatement," Head Coach Carli Figlio exclaimed.

"These student-athletes give their all to the sport they love, and their commitment in the classroom continues to impress me. They are true competitors, constantly striving to improve in every aspect of their lives. The holistic approach each of them takes is nothing short of remarkable. Today is a proud moment for Monmouth Field Hockey as it's recognized as number one in the country."

The Hawks boast the best grade-point average of the 57 Division I programs that appeared on this year's National Academic Team Award list, finishing atop prestigious schools such as Michigan State, VCU, Harvard and Quinnipiac – who rounded out the top five. Teams that qualify for a National Academic Team Award are "programs that have achieved an exceptional team grade-point average of 3.5 or higher during the fall semester of the current academic year."

In addition, 12 Hawks earned 2024 Scholar of Distinction honors, another mark that led Division I. This program acknowledges exceptional undergraduate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher through the fall semester, nominated by their NFHCA member coaches. Senior captain Johanna Karlhuber appeared on the list for the fourth time in her career, and joining her was Charlie Bowman, Eulalie Brouwers, Claire Campen, Katy Corcoran, Libby Doehner, Sofia Fouces, Milla Frye, Lauren Relik, Emily Singer, Hannah Tromble and Ava Zerfass.
