No. 12 Monmouth Clinches CAA Regular-Season Title with 4–1 Win Over Northeastern

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The No. 12 Monmouth field hockey team clinched its third CAA regular-season title in four years as the Hawks defeated Northeastern, 4–1, in the regular-season finale at So Sweet A Cat Field.

With the victory, Monmouth secured the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CAA Tournament. The Hawks had already earned the right to host the tournament but have now officially locked in the top seed.

Monmouth, which leads the nation in penalty corners, capitalized on three of its four goals via penalty corners and added another on a penalty stroke.

Freshman Maia McCourt opened the scoring with 47 seconds left in the first quarter. Lauren Relik found Florence van Doorn, who delivered a perfect pass to McCourt for the tip-in. Relik had an incredible game, tallying three assists. 

Reigning CAA Defensive Player of the Week Florence van Doorn continued her outstanding play, recording a career-high four points on a goal and an assist.

Relik and van Doorn connected again for Monmouth's second goal late in the second quarter. Van Doorn fired a shot from the bottom right side of the circle and buried it, giving the Hawks a 2–0 halftime lead.

Monmouth came out strong in the second half as captain Claire Campen netted her 11th goal of the season, finishing a setup from Relik and van Doorn to extend the lead to 3–0.

Northeastern broke through in the 36th minute when Emily Stubbs scored off a broken penalty corner to make it 3–1, but the Hawks' defense held firm the rest of the way.

Milla Frye capped the scoring in the 54th minute, converting a penalty stroke for Monmouth's fourth and final goal.
